From Buffalo Lab, Inc.
Probable setup is an Ubuntu server with Thinstation booted clients. X2Go looks interesting also.
Terminal
- We have 12 Neoware CA5 terminals.
- see info at http://www.jonshouse.co.uk/neoware_ca5.cgi
- research needed for compiling the needed sound module into linux kernel for Thinstation.
- Current factory software is Windows CE.
- Current plans are to network boot the terminals. PXE booting is not native but attainable by writing etherboot to the flash disk module.
- Terminals using XDM for sessions.
- Possibly several terminals set to VNC into special sessions to display information such as weather station or 'space status page.
- NOTE: BIOS password factory default is DOGBITES
Done
- Setup DHCP server to give out boot info for thinstations
- 3 are RAM upgraded and set to PXE boot.
Todo
- RAM upgrade and PXE the rest of them (possibly during a demo day?)
- Capture the rest of the MAC addresses and add to DHCP
- get sound kernel module compiled.
- Save the Windows CE image for future use.
Server
-
Server needs to be installed/configured.
- Server gort is set up with Ubuntu 9.10
- Has XDMCP enabled to allow remote X sessions.
- Has FreeNX for more secure remote X connections.
- Needs LDAP set up for everyone to log in.
Supplies
- Keep your eyes open for cheap terminals.
